Resin Storage Precautions
Ion exchange resins contain a certain amount of water, which must be retained during storage and transport. If the resin dries out it must be re-swollen in brine before use; protect it from rust, oil, strong oxidizers and organic contamination; never store it outdoors; keep it at 5–40 °C; and in winter it may be kept in NaCl brine of suitable concentration to prevent freezing.
(1) Ion exchange resins contain a certain amount of water, which must be retained during storage and transport. If a resin has dried out, soak it in approx. 10% sodium chloride solution before use and let it swell slowly and fully, then dilute gradually with clean water. Never immerse dehydrated resin directly in water: the sudden swelling will break the beads.
(2) During storage, protect the resin from contamination by rust, oil, strong oxidizers and organic matter to prevent oxidative degradation and poisoning.
(3) Do not store resin outdoors. Keep the storage temperature between 5 and 40 °C as far as possible; excessive cold or heat may freeze-crack the beads or accelerate microbial growth, degrading product quality and performance.
(4) In winter, where no heating is available, the resin may be stored in sodium chloride brine, with the concentration adjusted to the ambient temperature to prevent freezing.
